About

My name is Daniel Eagles, and from August 2007 until July 2008, I lived in Jishou, Hunan, China as a Princeton-in-Asia fellow. I taught American studies and conversational English at the Normal College of Jishou University.  This is my record of my year in Jishou.

I claim neither to be an outstanding writer nor to have produced any truly original insights here.  You probably will not find this blog interesting if you do not know me personally or have some connection to Jishou.

But, from the start, this blog was intended to fulfill two and only two purposes: serve as a journal for me, and save me the trouble of sending many different emails to different people to tell stories of my time abroad.  On those counts, I succeeded.

These 98 posts — 64,738 words in total — have not been edited since the dates I originally put them up.  I spent anywhere from about 15 minutes writing the shortest posts up to 3 or 4 hours writing the very longest ones.

You can browse my archives via the month-by-month links at right or by entering a keyword search at the top of the page.

Though I’m not writing here anymore, comments on posts are still welcome.  You may also email me at daniel@danieleagles.com.
